Frequently asked questions

Why is Ping TCP-based instead of ICMP?
Traditional ping uses ICMP echo requests, which require a raw socket. iOS and Android sandbox apps away from raw sockets unless the device is jailbroken or rooted. Netconf instead measures the time to complete a TCP connect to a host and port — e.g. 192.168.1.1:443 — which needs no special privileges. Latency numbers are comparable in practice, but slightly higher than ICMP because the TCP handshake is included, and a host that drops the target port will read as unreachable even if it responds to ICMP. Try port 80, 443, or 22 if a device looks down.
Does the app work without internet access for LAN-only tools?
Yes. Wake-on-LAN, Ping, the LAN Scanner, and the Subnet Calculator only need your local network — the calculator needs nothing at all. Whois Lookup, DNS Lookup, and Speed Test query external services, so those require an internet connection.
Where is my data stored? Can I move it to another phone?
Saved Wake-on-LAN devices, lookup history, and your theme preference live in on-device storage. There is no account and no cloud sync, so data does not follow you to a new device — that's the trade-off of running with no backend at all.
My Wake-on-LAN packet doesn't wake the device.
Check that Wake-on-LAN is enabled in the target machine's BIOS/UEFI and network adapter settings, that the phone is on the same subnet (magic packets are broadcast and don't cross routers by default), and that the MAC address is entered correctly. Wi-Fi client isolation on guest networks also blocks broadcasts.
How do I report a bug?
Email contact@privacyconcerned.com with your device model, OS version, app version, the tool involved, and what you expected versus what happened. Since the app ships no crash reporting, your description is the only signal we get — details help a lot.
Is Netconf really free? What's the catch?
It's free, with no ads, no subscription, and no upsell. There's no catch because there is no data business behind it: no accounts, no analytics, no backend.

There's no contact form here on purpose — a form means a backend, and we don't run one. Email works fine and we usually reply within a couple of business days.
